Valdís Tryggvadóttir is the oldest person in the village, the wife of Ásbjörn and the mother of Hallbjörn and Þóra. She is perhaps the last person to remember the worship of the old gods, in the days before the Gotterdamerung. Valdís now guides the village in the Old Ways, paying reverence to the old gods now dead while preserving the traditions that will otherwise die with her. Valdís can be a bit depressing to listen to, since she always focuses on the negative aspects of a situation. Despite this, she believes that the village can overcome its trials, as the founders were strong enough to survive the fall.
